The decision to remove Anwar from his position as a judge was read out by MKMK Chairman Jimly Asshidiqie on Tuesday evening (7/11/2023), antaranews.com reported.
Anwar was found guilty of violating crucial principles of Sapta Karsa Hutama upheld by the Constitutional Court. These principles encompass impartiality, integrity, proficiency, equality, independence, decency, and dignity.
Jimly asserted that Anwar is prohibited from running for or being nominated as the Chairman of the Constitutional Court until his tenure as a constitutional judge concludes. Additionally, Anwar is barred from involvement in the upcoming examination of the General Election Results Dispute Case.
MKMK has mandated the election of a new Chairman of the Constitutional Court within the next two days in compliance with legal regulations.
This decision came following the examination of 21 reports against nine judges of the Constitutional Court. These reports surfaced subsequent to the court's controversial decision to alter the requirements for presidential election candidacy.
The alteration was contentious as it was perceived to create an opportunity for Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is Anwar's nephew, to run as a vice-presidential candidate in 2024.
