Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Responding to Israeli accusations of the existence of a tunnel network under the Indonesian Hospital used by Hamas to launch its attacks, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza is a facility built by the Indonesian community solely for humanitarian purposes and to serve the medical needs of Palestinians.
"The Indonesian hospital is fully managed by the Palestinian authorities in Gaza, although there are always Indonesian volunteers who help from time to time," Foreign Ministry spokesman Lalu Muhamad Iqbal said on Tuesday (7/11/2023).
Previously, Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari said that "Hamas systematically builds Indonesian hospitals to hide its underground terror infrastructure", antaranews.com reported.
To back up his accusation, he played telephone recordings he claimed to be Hamas officials explaining the use of fuel supplies from Indonesian hospitals to carry out attacks.
Iqbal explained that the Indonesian hospital is one of the few health facilities functioning in Gaza, amidst the growing daily death toll due to Israeli attacks.
"The hospital is now treating patients far beyond its capacity," he said.
Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi has consistently condemned and called for an immediate halt to indiscriminate attacks on civilian targets, especially humanitarian facilities in Gaza, including hospitals and ambulances.
