Inp.polri.go.id - Tangerang. Customs Office officials at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport have intercepted 102 units of the iPhone 16 being smuggled without proper licensing. The devices were shipped from Batam between 4 and 27 November 2024.
Director-General of Customs and Excise Askolani explained that the smuggled phones were intended for distribution across several airports, including Soetta.
"These iPhones were brought in from Batam without meeting the necessary import licensing requirements," Askolani said during a confiscated goods destruction event in Tangerang on Friday (29/11/2024).
The seized iPhones will be destroyed in accordance with Ministry of Trade Regulation No. 08/2024, which prohibits the sale of unlicensed imported goods.
"These goods did not fulfill customs duties, and no auction will be held. This is a firm action against illegal imports," he added, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The iPhone 16 is currently prohibited from sale in Indonesia as Apple has not obtained the required Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certification. Devices brought by travelers for personal use are limited to two units per person and cannot be sold commercially.
Customs emphasized its commitment to stricter enforcement to protect local industries and the national economy.
