Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.Sufmi Dasco Ahmad on Monday (8/12/2025) called on the Ministry of Home Affairs to temporarily suspend South Aceh Regent Mirwan MS, who is the Deputy Chairman of Gerindra Party in South Aceh after the official traveled for minor hajj pilgrimage of umrah while his district faced severe floods and landslides.
The proposal came after public criticism and an ongoing internal examination by the Ministry’s Inspectorate General.
“The appointment of an acting regent will ensure disaster-response duties are carried out more effectively,” Dasco said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He added that any permanent removal must follow democratic procedures through the regional legislative council. Dasco noted that Mirwan’s supporting political party has already imposed sanctions.
The controversy escalated after President Prabowo Subianto, who is the Gerindra Party Chairman, publicly questioned Mirwan’s absence during a coordination meeting in Aceh on Sunday, instructing Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian to take firm action.
