inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives Ahmad Sahroni appreciated the steps taken by the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo who granted a suspension of detention for a student at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with the initials SSS.

Ahmad Sahroni did not deny that the student's actions in conveying criticism had gone beyond reasonable limits. The student was detained in connection with uploading a meme that offended Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and former President Joko Widodo.

"What the Chief of Police did was very good because previously I had also said that it should be resolved through a restorative justice approach," said Sahroni in a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday (5/12/2025).

However, Sahroni considered the student's actions to be excessive because her criticism actually made people uncomfortable seeing it.

"Hopefully an incident like this will not happen again to anyone," he said.

Sahroni emphasized that students still have the right to criticize. However, the criticism conveyed must be constructive.
