inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. National Awakening Party (PKB) Chairman Muhaimin Iskandar said the demands of demonstrators targeting members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) are a momentum for a comprehensive evaluation of the performance and state facilities received by the people's representatives.
Muhaimin, at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Sunday, said that the public criticism that has recently emerged reflects dissatisfaction with the way the legislative body has responded to public aspirations.
"Of course, this is a moment for all of us to evaluate and reform ourselves. I think all institutions, both legislative and executive, need to truly understand the demands of these aspirations," he said before attending a cabinet meeting.
According to him, these demands need to be understood as part of solidarity and joint correction, not only for the DPR institution, but also the executive institution.
He emphasized that one aspect that needs to be reviewed is the allowances received by DPR members, such as housing and various other incentives, which he said often give rise to social jealousy, so it is natural that they are in the public spotlight.
Muhaimin also emphasized the importance of transparency in managing the state budget, including the salaries and allowances of people's representatives.
He rejected the notion that this was something taboo to talk about, but rather that it should be openly opened to the public.
