Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani asked law enforcement officers to take action to follow up on the alleged shooting of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) that occurred in Malaysia.
"Law enforcement officers must immediately follow up on this matter, take the necessary steps to investigate," said the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives on Thursday (30/1/2025).
According to her, the government through the relevant ministries must also protect the PMI who were victims of the shooting. Furthermore, the government also needs to prevent similar things from happening again.
Puan also did not rule out the possibility that the relevant commission in the Indonesian House of Representatives would summon the Minister of Foreign Affairs to discuss the issue of the shooting of Indonesian citizens.
Previously, the incident of the shooting of five non-procedural PMI by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) occurred on Friday (1/24/2025) in the waters of Tanjung Rhu, Malaysia.
The shooting incident resulted in one migrant worker dying, another in critical condition, and three people being treated in several hospitals in Selangor, Malaysia.
