Inp.polri.go.id - Bengkulu. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported seismic tremors measuring 5.1 in magnitude originating from Kaur, Bengkulu, on Sunday night, according to Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono.
These tremors were felt as far as Liwa in West Lampung and South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) in South Sumatra.
Residents of Liwa, West Lampung, experienced tremors at an intensity of III MMI, akin to the passing of a truck, around 10:31 pm while residents in South OKU and several other areas in Bengkulu (Kepahiang, North Bengkulu, Kaur) briefly felt tremors at an intensity of I-II, causing light objects to sway.
The tremors originated from shallow earthquakes resulting from subduction activity of the Indian Ocean plate beneath the Eurasian plate.
BMKG's analysis placed the epicenter of the earthquake underwater, with a depth of 43 kilometers, approximately 57 kilometers southwest of Kaur, Bengkulu.
"Modeling results also confirm that the 5.1 magnitude earthquake does not pose a tsunami risk," Daryono said.
