Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. Severe flooding in East Aceh, Aceh Province, has caused estimated losses of Rp 5.39 trillion, affecting hundreds of thousands of residents, the East Aceh Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported on Sunday (14/12/2205).
The disaster, triggered by heavy rainfall and overflowing rivers since late November 2025, damaged homes, public facilities, infrastructure, and local economic activities across the regency.
“This figure is preliminary, as assessments continue in several isolated areas that remain difficult to access,” said Acting BPBD Head Afifullah, as quoted by antaranews.com.
He explained that the floods affected 267,714 people from 64,610 families in 433 villages across 24 districts. Authorities recorded 6,717 houses heavily damaged, 4,671 moderately damaged, and 7,040 lightly damaged.
At least 44,941 residents are staying in evacuation centers, while others remain in unsafe conditions at home. The disaster has claimed 52 lives, injured hundreds, and disrupted emergency response due to damaged bridges, power outages, and limited access routes.
