Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. East Java Police have uncovered a human trafficking syndicate that sent Indonesian migrant workers to Germany using tourist visas and asylum claims.
The group operated from Madiun, East Java, and was led by a 49-year-old man from Central Java, identified as TGS alias Y.
"The suspect recruited victims without legal documents and advised them to claim asylum upon arrival in Germany to ease their stay and job search," said Senior Superintendent Jules Abraham Abast, the East Java Police Head of Public Relations, on Friday (25/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The operation was revealed after a police report in March 2025 and a tip from the Indonesian Police Attaché at the Embassy in Berlin in February. Victims were told to file asylum at Suhl Camp, Thuringen, citing fabricated personal hardships. One now works at Susi Circle restaurant.
The suspect faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of Rp15 billion under the Migrant Worker Protection Law.
