Inp.polri.go.id - Balikpapan. East Kalimantan Regional Police have begun monitoring inns and lodgings around Indonesia’s new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), to prevent suspected illicit activities that could tarnish the city’s image.
"We are taking preventive measures to stop prostitution activities from emerging around IKN," said East Kalimantan Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Yuliyanto on Saturday (12/7/2025) in Balikpapan, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The move follows reports of suspicious activity at several inns near IKN, some of which were found to be used for hidden sex work. However, Yuliyanto clarified that no arrests were made due to the lack of evidence.
"No one were caught in the act, so no legal action was taken," he explained.
The police, in collaboration with local authorities and the military, will continue routine monitoring to ensure the capital's surroundings remain free from social ills.
