Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia has urged British oil and gas giant BP to grant a participating interest in its West Papua gas block to the provincial administration, emphasizing fair regional benefits from the Tangguh LNG project in Teluk Bintuni.
“I told BP, ‘You should give Papua its share,’” he said during a hearing with the House of Representatives (DPR)’ Commission XII on Tuesday (11/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
The Tangguh LNG facility, Indonesia’s largest liquefied natural gas plant, is operated by BP and partners as a national strategic project. Bahlil said granting local participation would ease the government’s responsibility while ensuring regional prosperity.
He added that Genting Oil’s Kasuri Gas Block in Teluk Bintuni is on track to start production in 2027, with its floating LNG facility already 80% complete in China. SKK Migas is negotiating a long-term LNG purchase deal with state utility PLN to prioritize domestic gas supply.
