Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Environment (KLH) has filed civil lawsuits totaling Rp 4.8 trillion against six companies accused of contributing to environmental damage linked to deadly floods in North Sumatra.
The lawsuits were officially submitted on Thursday (15/1/2026)and target firms operating in the Garoga and Batang Toru river basins.
“This is a strict liability case, aimed at restoring the environment and protecting the public’s right to a healthy ecosystem,” said Law Enforcement Deputy Rizal Irawan during a press conference in Jakarta, as quoted by antaranews.com
The defendants are PT NSHE, PT AR, PT TPL, PT PN, PT MST, and PT TBS. Of the total claim, Rp 4.65 trillion is sought for environmental losses, while Rp 178.4 billion is allocated for environmental restoration. The cases were filed across courts in Medan, South Jakarta, and Central Jakarta.
The lawsuits follow major floods and landslides in late 2025 that killed more than 1,000 people across Sumatra, prompting nationwide environmental enforcement actions.
