inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. On October 15th, 2024 following revitalization following the fire in September 2023, the Indonesian National Museum will finally reopen. Currently, the intensive revitalization process from last year is quite significant.

This revitalization does not only revolve around physical reconstruction of the museum and the rescue of various collections. “We also expand the museum building,” says the Acting Head of Indonesian Heritage Agency Ahmad Mahendra on Tuesday (9/17/2024).

In his statement, he reveals that the revitalization process involves various comprehensive handling steps from the data collection of fire damage.

"This is done in parallel with the relocation and documentation to ensure accurate conservation," he said.

He also added that the National Museum of Indonesia will also build an ecosystem that is relevant to the needs of the younger generation.

"Later, there will be many services that are expected to increase public participation in this museum," he said.

The National Museum of Indonesia building, also known as the Elephant Museum, has been operating since 1868. This historic building was closed for more than a year due to a fire on September 16th, 2023.
