Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Ministry of Forestry is preparing legal measures against companies suspected of conducting mining activities in forest areas of Raja Ampat, Southwest Papua.

“We will enforce measured legal actions through three instruments: administrative, criminal, and civil law,” said Director General of Forestry Law Enforcement Dwi Januanto Nugroho on Sunday (8/6/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The ministry has conducted field verification from 27 May to 2 June 2025 in response to growing environmental concerns. Three companies were found operating in forest zones: PT GN and PT KSM, both with forest-use permits (PPKH), and PT MRP, which is in exploration and lacks a permit.

Companies with forest-use permits will undergo forestry compliance audits. Violations may result in sanctions from warnings to permit revocation. Criminal or civil proceedings may follow if sufficient evidence arises.

For PT MRP, the ministry is initiating an investigation and summoning its representatives.

“We are committed to protecting Raja Ampat’s forests, which hold immense ecological and cultural value,” Dwi emphasized.
