Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government has allocated 30,000 tons of beef import quota for private companies in 2026, far below last year’s 180,000 tons, representing only about 16 percent of the total national quota of 297,000 tons, industry representatives said in Jakarta on Saturday (10/1/2026).
“This volume is extremely tight and threatens business continuity,” said Teguh Boediyana, the Executive Director of the Indonesian Meat Importers and Processors Association (APPDI), as reported by antaranews.com.
The quota decision applies nationwide for 2026 and affects more than 100 private importers, while the majority of allocations are assigned to state-owned enterprises. Business groups argue the sharp reduction risks supply disruptions, price volatility, and potential layoffs across the meat-processing sector.
Industry associations said they were not consulted prior to the decision and are seeking clarification from the Ministry of Agriculture and other relevant agencies.
They urged the government to review the policy to safeguard employment, market stability, and consumer access to affordable beef amid rising food demand.
