Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian reiterated that the government is open to public criticism and feedback regarding disaster response in Sumatra and Aceh in response to concerns over the handling of recent floods and landslides affecting thousands.

“We hear and understand various criticisms and inputs from the public regarding disaster management in Sumatra,” he said on Saturday (20/12/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com

Acknowledging shortcomings in the emergency response, Minister Tito cited challenging terrain and technical limitations as key obstacles. He apologized to affected communities for any gaps in government efforts but emphasized ongoing improvements to expedite emergency aid and recovery.

Minister Tito also highlighted the importance of solidarity and community cooperation in relief operations. According to the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) as of 20 December 2025, 1,090 people have died, 186 remain missing, and approximately 510.528 are displaced across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
