Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi announced on Tuesday (17/3/2026) that the government is formally evaluating budget efficiency measures for the civil servant sector. 

This fiscal review included a potential adjustment to the recruitment of new employees to better balance the state’s financial stability. Addressing the scale of the impact, her noted that while specific figures are not yet finalized, the strategy focuses on aligning new hires with the natural rate of staff attrition to ensure a leaner, more sustainable bureaucracy.

"This was discussed as one of the measures. If you ask for the exact number, as of this afternoon, we cannot yet provide a definitive figure. Regarding the fiscal aspect, every year there is naturally a number of civil servants who reach the mandatory retirement age," State Secretary Prasetyo said, as cited by antaranews.com

The government said that this intensified focus on efficiency is a necessary response to mounting global uncertainties and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. With geopolitical tensions driving fluctuations in energy prices, food security, and international supply chains, the administration is prioritizing fiscal discipline to shield the national economy from external shocks. 

He said that while recruitment may be tightened, the policy is designed to ensure that strategic sectors and priority government programs continue to receive the human resources necessary for optimal performance.
