Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The government clarified on Wednesday (23/7/2025) that its data transfer agreement with the United States, as part of a tariff deal, applies only to commercial data for specific goods and services instead of not personal or strategic data.
“This is purely commercial. It’s not about others managing our data, or us managing theirs,” said Hasan Nasbi, the Head of the Presidential Communications Office. “For example, palm-based glycerol can be used in fertilizer—or bombs. Data transparency helps track buyers and sellers to avoid misuse.”
The agreement is tied to Indonesia’s commitment to facilitate cross-border data flows under its Personal Data Protection Law. The U.S. is recognized as offering adequate data safeguards.
Spokesperson of the Coordinating Ministers for Economic Affairs Haryo Limanseto added the deal covers non-personal business data, like sales records and field research, not names or phone numbers, according to antaranews.com
