Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto questioned public criticism over his administration’s recent tariff negotiations with US President Donald Trump, which successfully reduced US import duties on Indonesian goods from 32% to 19%.

“Our principle in negotiation is always to protect the interests of the Indonesian people,” he said on Wednesday (23/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The president explained that although the US maintained a tough stance, Indonesia sought to avoid mass layoffs and protect businesses from collapsing.

“I negotiated because I must prevent any reason for layoffs. But there are always those who mock. Constructive criticism is welcome, but constant cynicism doesn’t help,” he added.

President Prabowo also defended his Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, often criticized as ineffective. 

“Children who are hungry cannot be ignored. They are our future,” he asserted.

President Prabowo urged Indonesians to trust the process, saying “Believe me, your elected President works for all Indonesians, not just a few.”
