Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia’s task force for Cesium-137 radiation monitoring confirmed that only one container of cloves is suspected of being contaminated with radioactive material, Cesium-137.
The container is scheduled to arrive at Tanjung Perak Port, Surabaya, on 29 October 2025.
“Only one clove container is suspected of Cs-137 contamination,” said Bara Krishna Hasibuan, the Head of Diplomacy and Communication at the Cesium-137 Radiation Handling Task Force, during a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday (20/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
He said that the team has inspected the port’s readiness and will conduct radiation testing once the container arrives. If contamination is confirmed, the cloves will be destroyed immediately to ensure public safety.
The task force found no contamination at the Natural Java Spice (NJS) facility in Surabaya or clove plantations in Pati, Central Java. However, trace levels of Cs-137 were detected in a small portion of cloves from South Lampung, though radiation levels remain too low to pose health risks.
