Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said on Monday (15/9/2025) that the government respects the initiative of six national human rights institutions to form an independent fact-finding team investigating the late-August protests that turned violent.
“That initiative was entirely theirs as independent state institutions, without any push or direction from the President or the government,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
The six institutions are the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan), Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Ombudsman, Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK), and National Commission on Disability (KND).
Minister Yusril emphasized that the government only coordinates with these bodies without issuing instructions.
He also clarified that their move differs from a formal Joint Fact-Finding Team (TGPF), which in the past required a Presidential Decree. On whether such a TGPF will be formed, the minister said the decision rests solely with President Prabowo Subianto.
