Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra, said the government will respond positively to the “17+8 People’s Demands” raised during nationwide protests in late August.
“As demanded from the people, a government entrusted by its citizens must respond positively. It is impossible for the government to ignore them,” he told reporters on Thursday (4/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
The minister stressed that law enforcement will remain fair, transparent, and respectful of human rights, following directives from President Prabowo Subianto. Peaceful demonstrations will be fully protected, while those committing arson, vandalism, or looting will face firm legal action.
Minister Yusril also highlighted safeguards for suspects, including due process, legal counsel, and the presumption of innocence. He warned that violations by law enforcers themselves would also be punished.
The minister added that Indonesia welcomes monitoring by the National Human Rights Commission and acknowledged international attention, including from the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva.
