inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Ministry of Human Rights (HAM) is urging clear legal accountability by Malaysia for the shooting incident of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) in Tanjung Rhu, Selangor.
Director General of Human Rights Services and Compliance, Ministry of Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Munafrizal Manan said that the shooting that resulted in one Indonesian citizen being killed, one person being critical, and three others being injured was an act that did not respect human rights values and principles.
"Urging transparent and impartial legal accountability by Malaysian law enforcement officers against APMM officers who have committed these inhumane acts," said Director General Manan on Wednesday (1/29/2025).
The Ministry of Human Rights condemns the incident that occurred on Friday (1/24/2025). Therefore, the Ministry of Human Rights encourages the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (SUHAKAM) to be proactive, professional, and independent in monitoring the development of the case on the basis of human rights for all.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Human Rights encourages the Indonesian National Commission (Komnas HAM) to proactively communicate and coordinate with SUHAKAM. Moreover, Komnas HAM RI and SUHAKAM have established a memorandum of understanding in the field of human rights.
"Encourage Komnas HAM RI to immediately discuss the inhumane acts experienced by PMI in the Southeast Asia National Human Rights Institution Forum (SEANF), where both parties are members of the forum," said Manan.
