Health Ministry and BPOM Pledges to Prevent GGAPA from Reoccurring

The Health Ministry and Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) pledges for revitalization of medicine inspection system to prevent Atypical Progressive Acute Renal Failure (GGAPA) from reoccurring. “Our duty, along with BPOM, is to fix the system. If possible, we don’t want any Indonesian children from dying because of those anymore,” says the Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin quoted from Antara on Wednesday (1/10/2024). Minister Budi says that the government guarantees that the medical cost for the patients of GGAPA are fully paid by the government through BPJS. Moreover, government will also paid for the transportation to the hospital for the GGAPA patients undergoing further treatment. The handing over of the aid for the families whom their children lost to the GGAPA were also given. The donation was given to 218 families who lost their children to the GGAPA, and 94 families whom their children survived from the deadly disease. On the other hand, the acting chair of BPOM Lucia Rizka Andalusia stressed that the regulations fixation have been done to prevent the disease from reoccurring. BPOM also continuously informed all pharmacy industries to abide with the applicable law. According to her, there are several pharmacy industries who ignored the regulation standard. “We have indeed have done various risk mitigation and forward we will continue to further improve it,” says Lucia.
