inp.polri.go.id - Bali. Bali Regional Police uncovered the modus operandi of subsidized fuel theft by a pickup truck driver named I Nyoman Manis (58). The theft was carried out by modifying the gas tank to be sold to the general public and fishermen.

"The perpetrator's modus operandi was to buy subsidized fuel of the Pertalite type at a Pertamina gas station using a pickup truck and remove the fuel from the tank of his car through a modified tap and then put it into jerry cans and bottles that had been prepared to be resold," explained the Head of Sub-directorate IV of Bali Regional Police Special Criminal Investigation, Superintendent Iqbal Sangaji on Friday (11/29/2024).

According to him, IMS bought Pertalite fuel at a price of IDR 10,000 per liter. The fuel was resold at a price of IDR 11,300 to the people around his house and to fishermen in Karangasem.

"The perpetrator made an average profit of IDR 5 million per month since May 2023," he said.

He added that the suspect's motive for committing the crime was to gain personal gain from the subsidized fuel provided by the government to the community. As a result, the state lost around IDR 36 million.

He further explained that the case was revealed after the police found the perpetrator transferring fuel from a pickup truck tank with the police number DK8554 TF to jerry cans and bottles in an empty lot on Banteng street, Padangkerta, Karangasem on November 21st, 2024.

Officers also found evidence in the form of several 30-liter jerry cans that had been filled with subsidized Pertalite fuel, several 1.5-liter bottles that had been filled with Pertalite fuel and dozens of 1.5-liter plastic bottles.

For this action, the perpetrator was charged with Article 55 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Natural Gas as amended in Article 40 number 9 of Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning the stipulation of government regulations in lieu of Law No. 2 of 2022 concerning job creation into law with a maximum imprisonment of six years and a fine of IDR 60 billion.
