Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. For the first time in Indonesia’s history, cooperatives will be allowed to manage mining and mineral concessions of up to 2,500 hectares under a new government regulation aimed at strengthening their role in strategic industries.
“This marks a historic moment, when cooperatives can now officially hold mining business permits of up to 2,500 hectares,” said Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantonoon Wednesday night (8/10/2025, following the inauguration of the Cooperative Information Management Board (BP-PIP) of Dekopin for 2025–2030.
The new policy is based on Government Regulation No. 39/2025, amending the implementation rules of mining activities under Government Regulation No. 96/2021. It allows cooperatives to enter an industry previously dominated by large corporations.
Minister Ferry said the government aims to foster professional and competitive cooperative-owned mining ventures that benefit communities and advance shared prosperity.
“We want cooperatives to stand shoulder to shoulder with major mining companies,” he added, as quoted by antaranews.com
