Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.   Indonesia has strongly condemned the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the political leader of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas, in Tehran, Iran, on Wednesday (31/7/2024).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released its official statement via social media, stating that the assassination is a provocative act that could escalate regional conflict and undermine ongoing negotiations, according to antaranews.com.

Hamas confirmed early Wednesday that Haniyeh was killed in an Israeli attack on his residence in Tehran. Haniyeh was reportedly in Iran to attend the inauguration of Masoud Pezeshkian as Iran's new President on 30 July 2024.

The international community has widely condemned the killing. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced the act as cowardly and dangerous.
