Inp.polri.go.id - Probolinggo. The Agricultural Quarantine Agency (Barantin) has confirmed that 1,080 pregnant dairy cows imported from Australia are healthy and safe, ready to support the country’s national milk and meat production program.
“Australia has a highly advanced dairy and beef cattle industry,” said Barantin Chief Sahat M. Panggabean during a handover ceremony in Probolinggo, East Java, on Tuesday (15/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The crossbred Holstein-Jersey cows arrived via Tanjung Tembaga Port on 28 June 2025 and were quarantined for 14 days. They passed all health checks, including physical inspections and lab tests, and are now being distributed to 120 farmers across East Java.
The import was conducted under strict quarantine protocols agreed between Barantin and Australia’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. The animals were declared free from major quarantine animal diseases like Foot and Mouth Disease, Brucellosis, and BVD.
East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa welcomed the import, calling it vital to boosting dairy productivity and fresh milk supply.
