Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries and the Danish government have initiated discussions on harnessing offshore wind power as part of Indonesia’s push for sustainable marine-based renewable energy.
"Denmark has been a strategic partner, contributing significantly to our regional marine planning efforts. Now, offshore wind energy emerges as one of the most promising opportunities," said Kartika Listriana, the Director General of Marine Spatial Planning, on Thursday (15/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Indonesia has developed marine spatial plans for over 20 years, and officials see offshore wind development as a key component in advancing the blue economy. The ministry outlined a regulatory mechanism requiring permits for both turbine installations and undersea cables.
August Axel Zacharie of the Danish Energy Agency highlighted Denmark’s achievements, noting over 50% of its electricity is sourced from wind and solar power. Denmark has three-decade-long expertise in offshore wind and marine spatial planning, employs more than 30,000 people in the sector and generates around €10 billion in annual revenue.
