Indonesia has reached out to Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey to ensure the safety of nine Indonesian citizens detained by Israel during a humanitarian flotilla to Gaza, Minister  of Foreign Affairs Sugiono confirmed the effort after a meeting with House of Representative (DPR) Commission I on Wednesday (20/5/2026)

“I have asked our representatives to communicate with the foreign ministries of Jordan, Turkey, and Egypt to obtain accurate information on the condition of our citizens,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com. 

He added that the outreach was necessary since Indonesia has no formal diplomatic ties with Israel.

The nine Indonesians, including three journalists from Republika and Tempo, were among those detained when Israeli forces intercepted the Global Sumud Flotilla. Indonesia strongly condemned the action, calling for respect of international humanitarian law and the continuation of aid delivery to Palestinians.
