Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Forestry has foiled the illegal trafficking of 80.5 kilograms of pangolin scales in South Kalimantan, detaining three suspects, after targeted surveillance by the ministry’s Kalimantan law enforcement unit.
“Pangolin trafficking remains a serious threat. We are stepping up efforts with specialized task forces and cyber patrols,” said Director General of Law Enforcement Dwi Januanton Nugroho on Sunday (1/5/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Two suspects were caught transporting 65 kilograms of scales, while another carried 15.5 kilograms on Friday. The evidence was seized, and all suspects are under investigation for violating laws on protected wildlife.
The operation is part of a broader crackdown on transnational wildlife crimes, including poaching, trafficking, and related financial crimes. Pangolins are among the world’s most heavily trafficked mammals and are protected under Indonesian law.
