inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman said that Indonesia is ready to export rice to other ASEAN member countries after opening the tap for rice exports to Malaysia.
"The direction of the President is that if friendly countries, especially neighboring countries, need rice, we will prepare it," said Amran at a celebration event of 4 million tons of government rice reserves (CBP) achievement in Jakarta, Friday (5/30/2025).
However, Amran emphasized that rice exports will be carried out by the government only if domestic needs have been met.
Currently, Amran revealed that a business-to-business (B-to-B) rice export cooperation to Malaysia has been established. Indonesia will later export 2,000 tons of rice to Malaysia per month or 24,000 tons per year.
Regarding when the export will begin, Amran left it up to the business actors involved.
"We plan to send from the closest to Malaysia, which is from West Kalimantan," said Amran.
Previously, Vice Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono stated that President Prabowo Subianto had given his permission to the plan to export Indonesian rice commodities to Malaysia.
Sudaryono explained that communication with Malaysia had been carried out, including meeting directly with entrepreneurs from that country who expressed interest in importing rice from Indonesia.
According to Sudaryono, Malaysian businessmen conveyed the need for rice as much as 2,000 tons per month, and this amount will be adjusted to the supply capacity from Indonesia.
