Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has received two Asia Environmental Enforcement Excellence (AEEE) 2024–2025 awards from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for its success in combating transboundary environmental crimes.
The honors recognized Indonesia’s strong collaboration and impact in marine pollution and wildlife protection cases, according to antaranews.com.
“This is a shared recognition for all law enforcement officers and institutional partners who have worked together to protect Indonesia’s environment and natural resources,” said Rasio Ridho Sani, the Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control at the Ministry of Environment, who served as Director General of Environmental Law Enforcement (Gakkum) from 2015 to 2024, on Saturday (18/10/2025).
Indonesia won in the Collaboration category for prosecuting the MT Arman 114 oil spill case, resulting in a seven-year prison term and a Rp 5 billion fine, and in the Impact category for dismantling a major illegal trade network of Javan rhino horns, achieving the harshest sentences in Indonesia’s wildlife crime history.
