Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Industry has announced it will block the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of the iPhone 16 if the device is found on the local market.

IndustryMinistry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arif confirmed on Thursday (21/11/2024) that the ministry is ready to deactivate the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) of iPhone 16 units as Apple has not yet met Indonesia’s domestic component requirement (TKDN) of 40%.

“If we find evidence that the iPhone 16 is being sold, we will block the IMEI,”  he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The ministry is also urging online platforms to refrain from listing or selling the iPhone 16.

As of November 10, 2024, 11,000 units of the iPhone 16 had entered Indonesia. The government is implementing procedures to ensure these units, brought in through passenger baggage, are for personal use only and not for resale.

Apple has submitted a $100 million investment proposal to Kemenperin, which includes plans for research and development centers and the production of AirPods Max components in Indonesia by mid-2025.
