Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has confirmed Indonesia’s plan to join major global economic blocs, including BRICS and the OECD, to advance national economic interests.
“We will not align with any defense alliances but will join economic blocs that benefit our nation,” said Presidential Communications Chief Hasan Nasbi during a press briefing after a cabinet meeting on Monday (2/12/2024).
Indonesia is seeking membership in BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).
Hasan highlighted the goal of securing maximum economic benefits through these partnerships.
Efforts to strengthen global economic ties have gained momentum under President Prabowo. Within days of taking office, he sent Foreign Minister Sugiono to the BRICS Plus Summit in Russia to express Indonesia’s interest in joining.
Indonesia’s OECD accession roadmap was approved in March 2024, and CPTPP membership discussions have seen significant support from existing members, expediting the process.
