Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has confirmed that further negotiations with the United States are necessary after the US Supreme Court overturned President Donald Trump’s authority to impose certain global reciprocal tariffs.
The ruling, which came shortly after the signing of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) in Washington, has introduced new legal complexities to the bilateral deal.
"There will be follow-up discussions between both parties regarding the latest legal decisions; Indonesia remains committed to prioritizing national interests," said Haryo Limanseto, the spokesperson for the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, on Saturday.
The US Supreme Court ruled 6-3 that the President exceeded his authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).
Despite the setback, President Trump immediately countered by announcing a 10% "global import tariff" via alternative channels.
Haryo reiterated that the ART has not yet taken effect, as both nations must still navigate their respective domestic ratification processes amidst this shifting legal landscape.
