Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Indonesia has called on Israel to uphold a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and lift restrictions on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), as mandated by two UN General Assembly resolutions adopted on Monday.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the adoption of these resolutions, emphasizing their importance in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

 “A permanent ceasefire is critical, and continued UNRWA operations will significantly reduce the suffering of Palestinian civilians,” the ministry  said in its official statement on Thursday (12/12/2024).

Indonesia co-sponsored the resolution on a Gaza ceasefire, adopted during the UN's 10th Emergency Special Session, and reaffirmed global support for UNRWA. The resolution condemned Israel’s law banning UNRWA’s operations in East Jerusalem.

Indonesia urged the international community to push Israel to implement the resolutions, ensure humanitarian aid access, and pave the way for a Two-State Solution.

The ceasefire resolution, calling for unconditional and immediate peace, received 158 votes in favor. The resolution supporting UNRWA, which highlighted its vital role, gained 159 votes. Both demand UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres report on implementation within 60 days
