Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Embassy in Phnom Penh reported a significant spike in Indonesian citizens returning home after being entangled in international online scam syndicates.
Within the past week alone, 462 Indonesians repatriated, with a single-day peak of 131 returnees on Sunday (22/2/2026). This surge brought the total number of facilitated returns to 692 since late January, as many flee exploitative labor conditions.
"The number of citizens reporting to the embassy has reached 4,725 since mid-January, nearly equaling the total cases recorded throughout all of 2025," the Embassy said in a written statement published by antaranews.com.
To manage the influx, the Embassy is providing Emergency Travel Documents (SPLP) and negotiating immigration fine waivers with Cambodian authorities.
Ambassador Santo Darmosumarto recently met with Cambodian Interior Minister Sar Sokha to strengthen cross-border law enforcement and protection mechanisms. Upon arrival at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, returnees underwent screening by joint task forces to assess their level of involvement in criminal operations versus their status as trafficking victims.
