Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police intercepted a significant drug smuggling attempt, seizing 1,001.76 grams of cocaine in West Jakarta on Thursday. 

Officers arrested a 31-year-old male suspect, identified as A, at a bus terminal in Kebon Jeruk. The suspect, a native of Bengkalis, Riau, allegedly transported the narcotics from Malaysia via Pekanbaru before heading to the capital.

"The suspect brought the cocaine from Riau using a long-distance bus and intended to distribute the substance across Jakarta," said Assistant Senior Inspector Abdul, the Head of the Suc-directorate 3 of the Metro Jaya Police Directorate of Narcotics Investigation on Sunday (22/2/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.

The arrest followed a public tip-off regarding a person transporting narcotics on a cross-Sumatran bus line. Upon arrival in the South Kedoya area, police arrested the suspect and recovered the high-grade narcotics. 

The suspect is currently in custody at the Metro Jaya Police Headquarters as investigators work to trace the international supply chain linked to the Malaysian source. This seizure recorded an escalation in local cocaine distribution attempts, which are typically less common than other synthetic drugs in the region.
