Indonesian Policewomen Held Napak Tilas in Bukittinggi to Commemorate It’s 74th Anniversary

"Thank you for being here together, let's continue to strengthen our solidity so that we can bounce back," explained the Inspector General Juansih, Saturday (20/8/22). Inspector General Juansih explained that activities like this are needed in dealing with situations like this. According to him, this was also to implements the instructions from the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. "In accordance with the direction of the National Police Chief yesterday, we will intensify our interaction with the community, such as the activities that can directly touch them so that we can regain public trust for the Police and Policewomen, which then makes us able to do greater contribution to the community," explained the Inspector General Juansih. This time, the commemoration of the 74th anniversary of the Indonesian Policewomen was held at the Bukittinggi Policewoman Monument. Juansih said that this monument was built by Commissioner Koesbandiah and Commissioner Endang Yudana in 1993. This monument has become the pride of Policewomen and is also a tourism icon in Bukittinggi. "Because its condition has deteriorated since 2015, so we need to repair it," explained the Inspector General Juansih. Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief of the West Sumatra Police Brigadier General Edi Mardianto said that, Policewomen of Indonesia was formed on September 1, 1948 starting from the city of Bukittinggi, when the emergency government of the Republic of Indonesia faced the second Dutch military aggression. "In the times of war, when there is a large-scale evacuation involving men, women and children, to prevent infiltration refugees must be examined by the police, but the female refugees do not want to be examined physically searched by the police men," explained the Deputy Chief of the West Sumatra Police. To overcome this problem, the Government of Indonesia appointed SPN Bukittinggi to open police inspector education for women, after going through a selection, six teenage girls from Minangkabau were appointed to be the first policewomen who were of Minangkabau blood and also came from Minang land.
