Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. Indonesian citizens who survived a shooting by Malaysia’s Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) have denied claims that they attacked first.
“The Malaysian police report states that our citizens initiated the attack, but the survivors dispute this,” said Judha Nugraha, the Director of Indonesian Citizen Protection at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Wednesday (29/1/2025).
Foreign Ministry is investigating whether APMM’s use of force followed proper procedures or was excessive. Two victims are in stable condition, while two others remain critical, according to antaranews.com.
The body of Basri, who was killed in the incident, arrived at Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru on Wednesday at 4 pm before being transported to Pulau Rupat, Bengkalis, for burial.
Five Indonesians, suspected of being undocumented migrant workers, were shot by APMM. One died, and four were injured.
