Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Headquarters has banned New Year fireworks nationwide, citing public safety concerns and solidarity with disaster victims in Sumatra,INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said on Tuesday (23/12/2205).
The ban applies to celebrations on December 31, 2025, welcoming the New Year 2026.
“From the INP Headquarters, we do not grant permits for New Year fireworks celebrations,” he said, adding that enforcement and sanctions will be handled by regional police units.
The decision was taken as Indonesia mourns communities affected by floods and landslides, with police urging the public to mark the New Year through meaningful and reflective activities, including prayers for victims, according to antaranews.com
To protect the Christmas and New Year period, the INP have deployed 234,000 personnel across service posts, security posts, and integrated posts nationwide, involving coordination with the military and transportation authorities.
Jakarta’s administration and Ancol recreational park have also confirmed the absence of fireworks, opting for simple celebrations as a sign of national solidarity.
