Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) have deployed heavy equipment to accelerate recovery efforts in several disaster-hit areas across Sumatra following flash floods, officials said on Saturday.
Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, the INP Public Relations Division Head of Public Information Bureau, said on Saturday (3/1/2026) that the police force understands the scale of damage faced by affected communities, where homes, public facilities, and access routes were buried by mud and debris.
“There are villages and residential areas that need assistance, and we are making every effort to reach them all,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
As of early January 2026, the INP has mobilized 86 units of heavy equipment and 18 dump trucks across Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. The machinery is being used to clear mud, reopen roads and bridges, normalize river flows, and restore schools, places of worship, and settlements.
In Aceh alone, dozens of units operate daily to reconnect isolated areas. Similar efforts are underway in West and North Sumatra to restore transportation links and support the resumption of social and economic activities.
