Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections are strengthening efforts to combat drug trafficking inside prisons.
This collaboration was discussed during a meeting between INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Immigration Minister Agus Andrianto at INP Headquarters on Friday (14/2/2025).
Minister Agus highlighted that prison raids require police support due to limited correctional personnel. He revealed that 313 inmates had been transferred to Nusakambangan Island Maximum Security Prison for allegedly running drug operations behind bars.
“Collaboration with the INP is crucial to ensuring our prisons are no longer used as drug distribution hubs,” Minister Agus said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
Chief Sigit welcomed the initiative, pledging the INP’s full support. He acknowledged Indonesia’s ongoing drug crisis and assured 24/7 assistance for prison raids.
“We will evaluate the impact of these efforts over the next three months and hope to see a decline in drug-related activities inside prisons,” Chief Sigit said.
