Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (INP) Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo said on Thursday (23/10/2025) that the institution urgently needs to improve professionalism and accountability amid growing public scrutiny.

“Public demands for police reform have become part of a national movement emphasizing transparency, empathy, and institutional reform to restore trust,” he said, referring to a series of violent demonstrations in August and September 2025 that highlighted a crisis of legitimacy within the INP.

Chief Dedi noted that internal issues include weak oversight, low accountability in law enforcement, abuse of authority, and a culture of impunity eroding public confidence, as reported by antaranews.com.

He said that civil society groups have identified 130 problems across 12 major issues ranging from legal supervision and human resource governance to public service orientation.

Chief Dedi stressed that the INP must reinforce external supervision and adopt technologies such as body-worn cameras and integrated digital systems to enhance transparency and human rights protection.
