Inp.polri.go.id – Jakarta. The Assistant for Chief of Indonesian National Police (INP) Human Resources, Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo announced that INP will recruits 10,000 people to be assigned to Papua. Dedi states that the recruitment is open from 2024 to 2028. He explains that for the 2024, the security institution plans to recruit 2,000 people in April and will immediately be sent to National Police School (SPN) in Java Island. Regarding the acceptance of the 2,000 police personnel, Dedi hopes that all Sub-regional Police Chief in Papua would also actively echo the announcement considering the Indigenous People of Papua would be prioritized for the program. The new police candidates would receive police education in SPNs across Java Island, and according to their education, they will be assigned for their respective region before being moved to Papua. Dedi adds that the recruitment of 2,000 personnel for 2024 includes 150 medical personnel. In achieving this target, police have collaborated with Cenderawasih University to fill the quota. In his official statement, Papua Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri states that in ratio, the number of police members in Papua is already sufficient. However, due to how large the region is, they require more personnel to cover the land. Due to limited number of personnel, as of now, there are only few of Sector Police in Papua, even in some regency, there are only two Sector Police. Compares to the cities in Java Island, such as Jakarta, the gap in sector police number is large. “I hope with the growing numbers of police members in Papua, we could cover the area much better so that we could also deliver our best service to the people,” said Papua Regional Police Chief.
