Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Criminal Investigation Agency has upgraded its probe into piles of logs dragged by recent flash floods in the Garoga and Anggoli river basins in North Sumatra to a full investigation.

“Both Garoga and Anggoli locations have now moved to the investigation stage,” said INP cCriminal Investigation Agency’s Director of Certain Crimes Brigadier General Mohammad Irhamni on Wednesday (10/12/2025).

Police raised the case after finding two key pieces of evidence, including heavy equipment at the scene and large volumes of timber scattered along the upstream river. Chief Irhamni said investigators will identify all responsible parties.

“We found two excavators and one bulldozer. We will determine what acts were committed, who ordered them, and who benefited, be it individuals or corporations,” he said, as cited by antaranews.com

Investigators suspect environmental crimes under the Environment Law and Job Creation Law. Officers also secured timber and logs samples showing mixed species and indications of land clearing.
