Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police convened a personnel assembly on Saturday (3/2/2024) for the Jaya 2024 Safety Operation, set to span 14 days from 4 to 17 March  2024. Brigadier General Suyudi Ario Seto, standing in for Metro Jaya Police Chief, highlighted traffic congestion and accidents as primary concerns, particularly when they result in fatalities. "One of the main causes of traffic accidents is a lack of traffic awareness, often triggered by driver violations or human error," he said. Deputy Chief Suyudi revealed that there were 11,629 traffic accident cases in 2023, marking an 11% increase from 2022, which recorded 10,494 accidents. A total of 2,939 personnel are involved in the Jaya 2024 Safety Operation, comprising 2,659 police officers, 80 military personnel, 30 transportation department staff, and 30 public order officers. "The Jaya 2024 Safety Operation prioritizes educational, persuasive, and humanitarian activities, supported by electronic law enforcement, both static and mobile, and sympathetic warnings, aiming to gain public sympathy, reduce traffic violations and accidents, and enhance traffic discipline in Jakarta," he explained. Furthermore, Deputy Chief Suyudi highlighted the operation as a preparatory measure for the holy month of Ramadan, aiming for heightened public readiness and discipline, with the hope of reducing accidents during Ramadan. He said that the operation would not involve stationary raids but would be conducted through mobile patrols. Offenders found during the operation could be reported to the Jakarta Traffic Directorate and the Police Internal Affairs Division. (mg/mz/pr/nm)
