Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Forensic psychology expert Reza Indragiri Amriel disagreed with labeling the deaths of a family of four who jumped from the 21st floor of the Teluk Intan Tower Topas Apartment in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, as a suicide case; rather, he argued it should be categorized as a criminal act.
"In police records, and as a collective acknowledgment, this tragic incident should be classified as a criminal case," he said on Tuesday (12/3/2024).
Reza explained that the criminal aspect revolved around the murder of children under the guise of coercing them to jump from a tall building.
He considered that the four people who leaped from the apartment's roof could only be considered as a family suicide if it can be established that each person had the will and mutual agreement to engage in such actions.
The four family members involved were father EA (50), mother AIL (52), son JWA (13), and daughter JL (15).
Reza emphasized that in any situation, children universally should be seen as individuals who do not consent to suicide actions.
"Because it was non-consensual, the children must be viewed as individuals who were forced to take such extreme actions," he said.
